Baosteel China was awarded a contract by QGC,a BG Group business for the manufacture of 550km of UOE 42-inch longitudinal seam SAW API 5L X70 steel pipe for its Queensland Curtis LNG Project.The pipe was manufactured and coated in Shanghai,with deliveries to Brisbane and Gladstone starting in September 2010 and continuing until June 2011.The pipe represents the collection header pipeline and 340km main export line that is transporting gas to Gladstone from QGCs coal seam gas fields in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland.The pipeline was the first of three large diameter gas transmission pipelines laid onshore in Australia for the export liquefied natural gas,and was the first major export of high strength UOE line pipe outside of China.The paper describes risk management processes and technical specification of pipe for the project and Baosteels process capability and quality management that have enabled the stringent requirements to be met for this very important project.
