The formation and evolution of galaxies are driven by both their masses and environments,but the relative influence of these two factors remains unclear.The specific frequency of globular clusters(SN)reflects roughly the fraction of stellar mass contained in globular clusters(GCs),and is an indicator of a galaxys early star formation and their entire assembly history.The Advanced Camera for Surveys on board the Hubble Space Telescope has imaged 100 galaxies in the Virgo cluster(ACSVCS)and 43 galaxies in the Fornax cluster(ACSFCS).These are nearly complete samples of early-type galaxies brighter than MB~-16,giving us a good opportunity to study SN in different environments.We present our recent work on SN in the Fornax cluster using ACSFCS data and compare the results with previous work in the ACSVCS,showing that the relationship between SN and galaxy mass in the denser environment of Fornax has different properties from that in the dynamical younger Virgo cluster.Early results indicate that intermediate mass galaxies in Fornax have unexpectedly high SN,while SN of similar galaxies in the Virgo are relatively low,and that the denser environment of Fornax may play a role.
