Amygdala, the center of emotion control, receives inputs from multiple sensory systems, and the majority of them are from vision.Amaral et al find that in primates, amygdala not only reciprocally connects with ventral visual cortex, but also directly projects to primary visual cortex. However, the functional role of feedback from amygdala to primary visual cortex remains unclear.Combing retrograde tracers (FluoroGold, 2%), evoked field potential (FP) recordings, intrinsic optical imaging, single unit recordings, and microinjection in basal nucleus of amygdala, we investigated the feedback projections from basal nucleus of amygdala to area 17 in the cat.
