Two carbon fiber laminated composite plates, [0/90]2s and [0/+ 45/90/-45]s, were tested in this work by using a vertical drop-weight testing machine to find out the contact force and the critical impact energy to penetrate the plates.After testing, the damage condition of these specimens were observed and compared with the results of finite element analysis.Explicit finite element commercial software, ANSYS/LS-DYNA, was used to simulate the impact process.
