Cyclic voltammetry(CV) and in situ FTIR were employed to study the electrochemical oxidation mechanism of phenol in NaOH solution.the Pt electrode exhibited good performance for the electrochemical oxidation reaction of phenol.the electrochemical oxidation reaction of phenol was as follows: phenol was electrooxidated to pyrocatechol and hydroquinone with ·OH radicals,which was subsequently electrooxidated to benzoquinone and Unsaturated carboxylic acids.Phenol could be electrooxidated to CO2 finally.
