This paper investigates the thermal comfort of Tibetan people who have been living in the plateau for thousands years under the distinctive climatic background that affects the thermal adaptability of human, from both aspects of physiology and psychology.As the first step of the thermal comfort investigation, the most habitable region for Tibetan people has been defined, using the theories of evolution and biogeography.The field investigation was undertaken in December 2007and October 2008 in Lhasa City in Tibet which belongs to the most habitable region.The residents daily behaviors were investigated by questionnaire in the downtown and the surrounding rural areas.Additionally, the subjective feelings of Tibetan people on environment were measured by env ironmental test and questionnaire.From the results of the investigation, thermal comfort zone of Tibetan people was defined through detailed analysis.After comparing with the ASHREA standard and the results of the previous studies on the indoor thermal comfort of people in China, it has been found that both of the range and value of thermal comfort zone of Tibetan people are different from the recommended comfort zone proposed by other researches.Finally, the usefulness of the proposed thermal comfort zone was pointed out.
