The global food system literally means the production, processing, distribution, and consumption of food at global level. The local food system as an altemative to the global food system aims at the realization of a sustainable economy of food at local level. This paper argues for a need to change the global food system into the local food system.First, the global food system gives rise to political, economic, and environmental difficulties.Second, the global food system does work in a balanced condition of supply and demand but it might be very vulnerable to changing economic conditions like unexpected natural disasters so that it would fail to work in the unusual conditions.Third, a close connection between producers and consumers and short food mileage--the prime features of the local food system--are a benefit to at once producers and consumers to enable producers to take more food dollars and consumers to take fresh food.Fourth, the local food system helps the countries, which are under crisis as a result of their coming into the global food system, reactivate their depressed agricultural industry. This paper suggests a variety of tasks that must be undertaken from at global level to local level in order to convert the global food system into the local food system and also the ones necessary for the change at each level.
