Opportunistic pathogenic fungi (OPF) are defined as Infectious fungal organisms that are normally commensal or do not harm the host, but can cause disease when the host is stressed.Species of the Botryosphaeriaceae are prevalent as pathogens of many hosts and have a wide global distribution on virtually all woody hosts. Many of these species can be affected and converted to opportunistic pathogens from a latent endophytic stage. They live inside plant tissues for all or part of their lives without causing apparent disease symptoms and found at high density and diversity in all tropical and temperate regions.
