Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men in Western countries.Hormone refractory prostate cancer (HRPC) is an end stage disease characterized by bone metastasis and with very limited therapeutic options.Docetaxel, the only chemodrug that has been shown recently to have effect on HRPC but unfortunately the improvement, though significant statistically, was modest with only about 2.5 months in survival advantage.We have shown recently that garlic extracts such as SAC (S-allyscysteine) and SAMC (S-allylmercaptocysteine) could effectively suppress the proliferation, migration and invasion of HRPC cells under in vitro condition.
