  Graphene (G) and graphene oxide (GO) were filled into epoxy resin (EP) respectively via chemical modification and physical ultrasound technology to improve the tribological behaviour of EP coating.The topographies of G and GO were detected by scanning probe microscopy (SPM).The chemical structures of the fillers before and after modification were identified by fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR).The components of the coatings were researched by X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS).The tribological properties of the coatings were evaluated by UMT-3 tribology tester, surface profiler and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The results reveal that the coefficients of friction (COFs) of the coatings have been decreased and the wear resistance of the coatings has been improved effectively with the addition of the fillers.In addition, GO can improve the tribological properties of EP further comparing to G.The optimum values that G at 0.5% content and GO at 0.75% content to obtain the lowest average COFs and best wear resistances were obtained.When the content of G reached to 0.75% and GO reached to 1%, the tribological properties of the composite coatings will be decreased for the reason that the agglomeration of the fillers.At last, the friction reduction and wear resistance mechanisms of G-Epoxy and GO-Epoxy were discussed in detail based on the results obtained above.
