This paper discusses a correlation between structural damage and earthquake observations at the 2008 Sichuan earthquake,in order to investigate seismic performance of existing buildings in china.The observation sites were arranged through the whole area of china,and were about 400 sites.By using response spectrum computed by a couple of horizontal records at the respective sites,principal axes and response levels are evaluated.According to analyze the principal axes of structural response,a geographical distribution caused this earthquake is examined,and to compare response level with earthquake damage states,seismic performance of buildings are estimated.
