Background: Failure of resolution mechanisms contribute to disease pathogenesis in non-neoplastic inflammatory diseases.Inflammation in the tumor microenvironment is now recognized as one of the hallmarks of cancer.A new direction has emerged in inflammation research with the discovery of a new genus of endogenous anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving lipid-autacoid mediators derived from omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as resolvins, which have potent novel inflammation clearing (pro-resolution) activity without being immunosuppressive.
