AIM To study the effect of Compound Jaogulan Yizhi granule (FJG) on improving learning and memory and decreasing the stroke mortality in mice.METHODS ① Sixty female KM mice were randomly divided into 6 groups : control group, model group, positive group (piracetam : 0.5 g· kg-1· d-1) and FJG 16, 8 and 4 g· kg-1· d-1 group.Administration in each group was given by gavage for 7 d.One hour after the final administration, the model group was sacrificed and the effect of FJG on improving learning and memory in mice was investigated by the step-down test (10 min before the test, memory impairment model groups were given scopolamine 2 mg·kg-1 ,ip).② Similarly sixty male KM mice were randomly divided into 6 groups and the piracetam was replaced with aspirin (0.2 g·kg-1 ·d-1) in the positive group.One hour after the final administration, the model group were given a injection of mixture of collagen (225 μg/each one) and adrenaline (9 μg/each one) from tail vein and the stroke mortality was investigated.RESULTS ① It showed that there was a significant difference of FJG 16 g·kg-1 (3.00 ±2.30), 8 g·kg-1 (2.40 +2.37) and 4 g· kg-1 (3.20 ± 1.47) group compared with the model group (8.10 ± 3.59) (P < 0.01) in error frequency in step-down test.② It showed that there was a significant difference of FJG 16 g· kg-1 (20%), 8 · kg-1 (30%) and 4 g· kg-t (30%) group compared with model group (90%) (P < 0.05) in the stroke mortality.CONCLUSION ① The results indicated that FJG had significant effects on improving learning and memory in mice.② The results indicated that FJG had significant effects on decreasing the stroke mortality induced by injecting mixtttre of collagen and adrenaline from tail vein in mice.
