To be environmentally sustainable, an agro-industrial activity must ensure a suitable final destination to its wastes. This study presents some properties of woody wastes from timber processing and a mapping of the main forest-based industry in northern Mato Grosso State. For this, an exploratory survey was conducted with the main forest-based industries in the region / Brazil and sawdust samples from different forest species was collected at the saw belt in randomly chosen saw mills. Our results show that region produces large amounts of woody biomass potentially available touse in pyrolysis plants to obtain energy and biochar. The region in question has great potential for biochar production from waste wood processing primarily by proximity to sources of feedstocks and agricultural areas.
