Some calculation was did to study the light scattering caused by pores and grain boundary phases in transparent ceramics with cubic structure,such as Nd-,Yb-,Tm-dopped YAG,Y2O3 and Sc2O3.Mie scattering theory and Rayleigh scattering theory were used to calculate the scattering cross-section,and its relationship with the scale,shape,distribution and density of pores or grain boundary phases was discussed.Lambert-Beer Equation was used to simulate the in-line transmittance with the affect of scattering by pores or grain boundary phases.All the calculations was done with Matlab programs.
