Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), a 41-amino acid peptide hormone first identified in the hypothalamus, is also produced in human placenta.During pregnancy, the human placenta synthesizes and secretes large amounts of CRH, the circulating concentration of which rise exponentially in the third trimester of pregnancy.The actions of CRH are mediated by two subclasses of CRH receptors, CRH-R1 and CRH-R2, that are distributed in placenta, fetal membranes and uterus.
