Rare-earth cobaltites(RCoO3)have been extensively investigated and results show that cobalt ions with six d electrons in a octahedral coordination can be in a low-spin(LS:),intermediate-spin(IS:),and high-spin(HS:)depending on the temperature.In RCoO3 family,GdCoO3 presents an orthorhombic crystallographic structure and used for its application as cathode material in gadolinia doped ceria(GDC)electrolyte based intermediate temperature SOFC(IT-SOFC).
