Inflammation of cancerous tissues induced by intra-tumor administration of bacterial vaccine or BCG can result in regression of the local as well as metastasized tumors. However, inflammation in normal tissues results in no significant effect on the tumors.Inflamed normal tissues release membranous lipid metabolites, lysophospholipids, which efficiently activate macrophages.Inflamed cancerous tissues release lysoalkylphospholipids and alkylglycerols which are at least 400 times potent macrophage activation than lysophospholipids, suggesting that highly activated macrophages are tumoricidal.
