Association of Mgp Levels with Coronary Artery Calcification in Chinese Han Population

Objective : investigate the relation of MGP levels with coronary artery calcification score in chinese Han population.Methods : For the purpose of the study the researcher selected 90 patients age 40 to 80 years who underwent a CT angiography test for assessment of CAC from june 2014 to December 2014 at ChongQing First Affiliated Hospital. We collected all the patient’s serum to measure MGP by using ELISA. The clinical parameter were collected from medical record. The population then divided into 2 groups based on CAC score as (+) calcification and (-) calcification and compare the levels of MGP between the groups using unpaired t-test and determine the correlation using Pearson bivariate analyses.Results: mean MGP is higher in CAC group vs non CAC 0.582±0.042 vs 0.354±0.022; HbA1c mean is higher in group with CAC vs non CAC 5.830±0.063 vs 5.569±0.059; Total cholesterol mean is higher in group with CAC vs non CAC 4.699±0.146 vs 4.115±0.121;Triglyceride mean is higher in group with CAC vs non CAC 2.618±0.073 vs 2.138±0.062; LDL mean is higher in group with CAC vs non CAC 3.050±0.136 vs 2.534±0.113; VLDL mean is higher in group with CAC vs non CAC 0.524±0.015 vs 0.428±0.012;higher weight mean in CAC group (68.53±1.551) vs non CAC group (62.30±1.212), higher BMI mean in CAC group (26.288±0.480) vs non CAC group (24.449±0.476). Serum MGP is positively correlated with Triglyceride levels r = 0.759, LDL levels r = 0.366; VLDL level r = 0.759, total cholesterol r = 0.334 and negatively correlated with HDL levels r = -0.293 and CAC score r = - 0.353.Conclusion: serum MGP levels correlates with calcification and lipid profile and can be used as biomarker of calcification in the coronary artery.
