An important role of management is to help make work more satisfying andrewarding for employees and to make employees motivation consistent withorganizational objectives.Motivation is the tool, which moves a person to an action andkeeps him going on.Motivation has a huge role to develop and intensify the desire ofevery member in the organization to work effectively in his or her position. The aim of this study was to explore the role of motivation on the performance ofemployees in public and private schools.In order to access this role, five independentvariables were used to explain their impact on the dependent variable. This research employed the qualitative and quantitative methods.Survey wasconducted in public and private schools in Samarkand city, Uzbekistan amongschoolteachers in both public and private school sectors.A five Likert scale was used inquantitative method.Primary data were collected through questionnaires.Data wereanalyzed by using SPSS 20.0 software. The study revealed that motivation plays a pivotal role in the job performance ofboth public and private school employees of Samarkand.Within the private sector,majority of the respondents see high wages as the best motivating factor that inducesschoolteachers to perform more productively whereas in the public school sector, fullappreciation for work done factor was the most favored factor that is considered as thebest motivator.In both sectors, interesting work was not given a high consideration asgood motivator.
