In academia, colleges and universities hire graduates as teaching and research assistants. However, the way they are inducted into the system and mentored in theprocess, above all, the clarity of their job description and promotion opportunities have always been pressing issues for Graduate Assistants (GAs). This survey dealt with the induction and mentoring situation of GAs in 7 Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) in Eritrea, East Africa. It explored the views of 133 GAs’25 senior faculty members and 7Deans of Colleges on the aforementioned elements of GAsconcem. One-Way ANOVA,and Post Hoc Test analysis techniques were used to analyze data collected through alikert scale questionnaire; interview questions are categorically summarized. Result srevealed that GAs shoulder vital responsibilities but they receive poor induction,mentoring and promotion opportunities in all colleges. This thesis revealed the mainreasons and more.
