Founded in 1966, Sussex University Institute for Science Policy (SPRU) focuses on science and technology policy issues and contributed to the government's discussions and decision-making. Initially a research organization, the agency is increasingly engaged in teaching and completing various research programs at the firm. The Institute of Science Policy employs some 60 research and teaching staff, including natural scientists, engineers and social scientists, to form an interdisciplinary team to conduct research. Many people have gained experience in industry, administration and other fields. The first director of the institute was Professor Christoph Freeman; after he retired, the post of director was Professor Jeff Oldham, and the acting director was Professor Keith Pavitt .
