从苏联解体前一段时间起,苏联各民族间矛盾日益尖锐,民族名称频繁出现于报端,而涉及苏联境内一些突厥语族的民族译名出现了一些混乱,如“士耳其族的鞑靼人”、“突厥族的鞑靼人”;“土耳其族加告兹人”、“突厥族加告兹人”;“土耳其斯坦”等等。甚至出现了“鞑靼人是土耳其人的一支”的译文。“突厥”与“土耳其”是两个不同的概念。各有准确的含义,不能混同,不能通用.必须正确加以区别和使用,以免谬种流传,贻笑大方。“突厥”在历史上是在亚洲中部存在过的
