After Liang Qichao proposed “revolution in fiction circles” in the late Qing Dynasty, extraterritorial fiction was translated into China. The translation and introduction of extraterrestrial science fiction is inevitably influenced by the political discourse at that time. The translator manipulated and rewritten in the process of translation to adapt to the late Qing social ideology. This rewriting will largely result in the deformation of fictional characters . This article intends to use “sea travel” as an example to analyze the relationship between this politicized rewriting and the deformation of character images.
