记者:王先生您好!1999年4月3—4日在北京中山公园音乐堂和北京音乐厅您个人作品音乐会(二)中首演了您三十七年前创作的《第一交响曲》。这大约是我国或者世界上也极少有或从未有过的三十七年后才首演一部作品的事件吧!人们对此感慨不已!因为莫扎特也只活了36岁啊! 王西麟:《第一交响曲》是我1962年于上海音乐学院作曲系的毕业作品。当时是完成了“第一乐章”(19分钟),并以双钢琴演奏通过了正规的国家毕业考试。“评分”是“五减”。我已经有了第二、三乐章的全作的构思,也写了主题。但当时我的导师瞿维先生拦住了,没有写下去。

Wang Xilin: “Symphony No.1” is a graduation project that I made at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1962. It was completed “First Movement” (19 minutes) and passed the regular national final exam with double piano performance. “Rating” is “five minus.” I already have the second and third movements of the whole idea, also wrote the theme. But then my mentor Mr. Qu Wei stopped, did not write down.
