In William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Hamlet,the suspicion of Ophelia’s death is a hot-debated issue.From my point of view,her death is not an accident but a suicide which is protected by the noble class in its era.This paper will focus on the historical background in the Elizabethan era and the textual meaning in Hamlet to explore a possible explanation for the puzzling death of Ophelia.
