Changes in Class and Social Structure The adoption of new technologies and automated production systems and changes in the foundations of energy and raw materials for production have led to changes in the importance of various sectors of the economy that have led to profound changes in Japan’s class and social fabric. Just as in other capitalist industrialized countries, the share of Japan’s agricultural practitioners has also plummeted, though the share has been relatively large in comparison with the United States and other highly developed capitalist countries. The general trend in Japan is also the loss of importance for traditional industries, with the increasing importance of high-tech and unproductive sectors.
