As a print artist, I would like to talk to Chinese friends about the development of modern British prints. British prints have a long history, but it has not been more developed until the recent 25 years and is widely understood by the general public. Although there are many reasons for this, perhaps the most important thing is perhaps the influence of Anglo-American pop art from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. During this time, artists began to use their daily appearing characters in advertisements, television, movies and comic strips as the theme of their work. Silkscreen prints, especially photographic silkscreen prints, will then give way to works by widely influential artists such as Richard Hamilton in the United Kingdom and Andy Warhol in the United States. Hamilton was a pioneer in pop art and created the term pop art; while Warhol, with its immense variety of pictorial and printmaking, embodied pop art better than any artist.
