Purpose The small blood vessels of the brain have the important functions of transporting blood, regulating cerebral blood flow and building a blood-brain barrier. When these vascular units cause a series of clinical events caused by lesions called cerebrovascular disease (CSVD). In the early stage of CSVD, the blood-brain barrier permeability increases and persists, leading to leakage of plasma components from the barrier injury and inducing local blood vessel and nerve cell damage. The blood-brain barrier injury of CSVD and its possible mechanism are reviewed in this paper.
