老年教育的深化要求在推进平易化发展的同时也推动其高端化发展。适应老年人系统学习某一领域的专门学问、技能或艺能的需求,在单一课程之上设置专业、在单一专业之外设置多项专业是老年教育发展的必然结果和应然要求。高端老年教育的基本理论是体验式互动学习、进阶型专业学习和个性化自主学习,它们或多或少均出自建构主义和人本主义学习理论,并以此塑造自身的存在形态。高端老年大学的基本形态包括课程形态、专业形态、系科形态和整体形态,高端老年教育实施方面的研究分别对其进行具体阐述。学员、教员和教材三者构成高端老年教育办学的基本要素,分别对其提出相应界定和具体要求,同样体现老年大学的高端特征。上海浦东新区为推进老年教育发展在理论和实施两方面进行积极探索。
