北京的有轨电车满打满算也就三十几年的历史,但是它在老北京人的心目中占有重要地位,至今老人们说起电车来仍津津有味。当年北京人管有轨电车叫diangdiang车,这个叫法是北京人的专利,民国的期许多大城市都有有轨电车,唯独北京人给他取了一个这么形象的名字,而且一叫就是几十年,至今老人们说起来仍然这么称呼它。这种有轨电车行进中没有喇叭,没有汽笛,司机不停地踩踏脚铃,以警示行人和其他车辆。脚铃是铜质材料制作的,外形好像两个大饭碗扣在一起,声音清脆洪亮。尤其是老司机,他们能踩踏出有节奏的diangdiang声,所以说老北京的diangdiang车是因其声响而得名的。
