It is universally acknowledged that the Far East is the most dynamic place in the global economic development today. In the two decades before the 1980s, the world’s GNP increased at an average rate of 3.4%, while in East Asia it was 6.8%, double the figure of a whole. Compared with the past two decades, the development pattern of the Far East economy will show three major trends of change: First, it will shift from “geese flying mode” to “dual locomotive mode” in the economic development pattern. The Geese Model was originally a view put forward by a Japanese scholars in the thirties of this century. Its original meaning means that in Japan’s own economic development, the development of a pillar industry (such as the steel industry in the 1930s)
