中山舰原名永丰舰,是一艘钢木结构的炮舰,由日本三菱造船厂制造,舰身长82.1米,宽8.9米,排水量780吨,吃水深度2.4米,功率为1350马力,最高航速13.5浬,主副炮8门,由清政府1910年向日本订购,193年建成后加入袁世凯政府海军第一舰队服役.第一舰队是当时中国海军的主力舰队,有4300吨钢板巡洋舰1艘、220至 2950吨巡洋舰4艘和其它吨位不等的巡洋舰.驱逐舰.炮舰10艘.永丰舰是舰队中的“小不点儿”.可就是这艘“小不点儿”,因其经历了许多重大的历史事件而被载入史册.
