In the early years of the Republic of China, the use of the Forbidden City to open up exhibitions of antiquities reflected the environment for public opinion that rejuvenated the country by the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China and the efforts of the Beijing government to enlighten the people through the new public space. The establishment of the antiquities and exhibitions partially deconstructed the original enclosed space pattern of the Forbidden City and opened up a new type of urban public space. It provided a new leisure mode and venue for the citizens of Beijing and possessed epoch-making social and cultural meanings. However, the Beijing government again used expensive tickets to control the disguised space of antiquities exhibitions, limiting its public nature.
