One such radar currently being finalized in FIAR Italy is an improved version of the R21G radar on the F-104s of the Italian Air Force. It will replace more than 50% of the original radar. This frequency-agile radar has the ability to shoot down and detect low-level targets. This R21G / MI Setter new fire control radar development costs paid by the Italian Air Force. The prototype has been tested on the F-104 since March 1985. The second prototype has been delivered to the Italian Air Force for testing. The other two will also be delivered. The improved radar features a new incoherent output magnetron transmitter that can be used to detect empty-to-empty targets.
