美国孟山都公司已申请“扩大利用许可”以扩大改良马铃薯种NewLeaf Plus的田间试验。这种马铃薯既抗马铃薯叶卷病毒(PLRV),又抗科罗拉多马铃薯甲虫。其甲虫抗性是由于插入苏云金芽孢杆菌(Bacillus thuringiensis tumefaciens)中的cryⅢA基因赋予的。而PLRV抗性是通过采用同样方法插入PLRV复制酶基因获得的。据孟山都档案资料,每年美国马铃薯作物用于防治甲虫和上述这类病毒的化学农药量达779000/bs,或约占全年施用化学农药量的30%。因此,改良马铃薯种NewLeaf Plus可能会减少对这些化学农药的依赖性。
Monsanto, the U.S. company, has applied for a “license extension” to expand field trials of the improved potato variety NewLeaf Plus. This potato is resistant to both potato leafroll virus (PLRV) and Colorado potato beetle. Its beetle resistance is conferred by the cryIIIA gene inserted into Bacillus thuringiensis tumefaciens. PLRV resistance was obtained by inserting the PLRV replicase gene in the same manner. According to the Monsanto archives, the annual amount of chemical pesticides used by the U.S. potato crops for the prevention and control of beetles and the above-mentioned viruses amounts to 779000 / bs, or about 30% of the total amount of chemical pesticides applied throughout the year. Therefore, improving the potato variety NewLeaf Plus may reduce its dependence on these chemical pesticides.
