先秦儒家认为,孝是子女回报父母养育之恩的内在情感,是子女和父母之间的相感相通。这种相互感通的情感自然外化为文明的仪式行为,孝才显得真实可靠。在孝心转化为孝行的过程中,儒家反对功利主义和刻意为之。在孝的践行中,先秦儒家一方面以父子相隐果断地处理了亲情和法律的矛盾,另一方面也发展出由爱亲推及爱人的大孝。由心的共鸣、情的感通,先秦儒家构筑了孝的伦理之塔。
Pre-Qin Confucianism believes that filial piety is the intrinsic emotion of the children’s return of the grace of parenting and the mutual connection of children and parents. This feeling of mutual empathy naturally externalized into a ceremonial civilized behavior, filial piety appears to be true and reliable. In filial piety transformed into filial piety, Confucianism opposed utilitarianism and deliberately did it. In the practice of filial piety, pre-Qin Confucianists, on the one hand, handled the conflicts of affection and law with both father and son, on the other hand, they also developed the great filial piety by loving and kissing their loved ones.
