多少年来,人们一直沿用实地勘查、航空象片等传统的方法进行土地清查和水资源清查.到七十年代,陆地卫星多光谱扫描仪(MSS)被广泛应用,因为它具有重复监测、覆盖范围大、信息数字化和具有红外波段的特点.但人们一直希望能获得一种分辨率更高的卫星摄象资料.目前,新发射的载有专题成象扫描仪(TM) 的卫星正在完善这种功能.本文通过对(MSS)信息和TM信息的各种性能特征及功能的对比,证明了TM信息的优越性,并指出未来卫星发射将为遥感这一科技领域的发展展示广阔的前景.在清查土地和水资源的过程中,人们使用的传统方法是实地勘查或利用航空象片、卫星影像等.对于卫星的研究,大多数人感兴趣于利用陆地卫星(Landsat)的多光谱扫描仪(MSS),因为它具有重复监测的特点.七十年代以来,MSS以其覆盖范围大、信息数字化和具有红外波段的特点.在大范围的勘查研究中得以广泛的应用.但是,为了满足更加准确的土地利用研究的需要,人们一直希望能获得一种分辨率更高的卫星影像资料.因此.美国国家航空和宇宙航行管理局(NASA)发射了两颗载有主题成象仪(TM)(亦称专题成象扫描仪)的新卫星;即第4颗陆地卫星和第5颗陆地卫星.这两颗卫星的信息比陆地卫星MSS信息具有更高的精度和分辨率.
