北国冰城哈尔滨一个贫穷市民家庭里的独子,在下岗母亲的不断激励与全力支持下,终于考入著名学府——南开大学。然而,入校26天后,母亲突然患病,陷入无钱医治的困境。他毅然洒泪退学,用那笔浸透泪水的退学学费,终于把母亲从死神前拉了回来。而他的母亲却无法面对爱子退学名校的现实,于是她以自己的病弱躯体和博大的母爱,想方设法艰难地托起儿子的求学梦想。儿子最终不负母望,再次如愿,考入京华著名学府——北京师范大学。
