新都宝光寺壁画绘制于清光绪三十年(1904年)或稍后,是已知最晚的中国古代独立涅槃图像。画面由双树涅槃、应尽还源及阿育王造塔三个场面组成。图像表现主要借鉴了清永珊《释迦如来应化事迹》中相关图像,双树涅槃与应尽还源场面占据画面主体,以十二圆觉菩萨彰显法身,着意表述释迦佛化缘已尽、还源法身的思想,体现了明清时期涅槃图像的新发展。阿育王造塔场面,则反映了宝光寺地方信仰和特定历史背景。
Xindu Baoguang Temple murals drawn in the thirty years of the Qing dynasty (1904) or later, is the latest known ancient Chinese independent Nirvana images. The picture is composed of Shuangshiru Nirvana, should make the best of the source and Asoka king tower. The image performance mainly draws on the relevant images in Qing Yongsan’s “Shakyamunar Incident”, the double-tree nirvana and the best source scene occupy the main body of the picture, reveals the Dharmakaya with twelve round consciousness, It also reflects the thoughts of the source and body of law, which shows the new development of Nirvana image in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Ashoka tower made the scene, it reflects the Baoguang local beliefs and specific historical background.
