Since China’s food industry entered the new century, it has maintained a sustained and rapid development trend. 2001 increased by 10.5% over the previous year, increased by 16.6% in 2002 and increased by 19.8% in 2003. The pace of development in 2004 further accelerated. The total output value of modern industry was 1,616,386 million yuan, an increase of 25.2% over the same period of previous year. Total industrial added value reached 552.982 billion yuan, up by 14.30% over the same period of the previous year and accounting for 10.09% of the national industrial added value. The achievements made in these achievements have been commendably made by overcoming the impact of emergencies such as the bird flu and the more substantial price hikes in raw materials for food production. Food prices rose in 2004 higher than the consumer price growth, food consumption prices increased 9.9% over the previous year. Among them, the highest price of food rose, reaching 26.4%, meat and poultry prices rose 17.6%.
