At the end of September, the OPEC meeting in Algeria accidentally reached a limit agreement. Market optimism supported a sharp rise in oil prices. In mid-to-late October, the dollar rose to a high of eight and a half months and speculative long-term profit taking pressured crude oil prices in a narrow range. In October, the spot prices of WTI, Brent and Asian Dubai crude oil averaged 50.11 U.S. dollars, 49.86 U.S. dollars and 49.10 U.S. dollars respectively, up by 4.91 U.S. dollars, 3.19 U.S. dollars and 5.77 U.S. dollars respectively. see picture 1.
