Preliminary results from a collaborative study in Senegal / the Netherlands showed that praziquantel has very low cure rates for schistosoma mansoni and high rates of serious side effects. The experimental area is located in Richard Toll village on the Senegal River and is a popular center for outbreaks of Schistosoma mansoni. Praziquantel treatment at a dose of 40 mg / kg did reduce infection in heavily infected patients. Before treatment, 41% (17/422)
