In the early days of Agricultural Archeology, we read a series of research articles on the existing “slash-and-burn” agriculture in ethnic minority areas in China. This article describes a special primitive farming system that is part of the Bomba district of Zambia in southern Africa. The author conducted an intensive and detailed investigation of the farming practices in terms of the ecosystem, farming and migration processes, the composition of food and the distribution of labor. This has a certain reference value for our comparative study on the stage of development of early agriculture and cultivation process in the world. This article is translated from the Danish National Museum of English magazine “Tools and farming” February 1985 (total issue of the fifth issue)
