Recent studies have demonstrated that the adhesion molecules expressed by vascular endothelial cells play a key role in the adhesion of leukocytes and vascular endothelial cells, transendothelial migration, and tissue infiltration during the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. Overexpression of endothelial cell adhesion molecules plays an important role in the development of multiple injuries, sepsis, and multiple organ dysfunction. Lung damage is extremely common in acute severe pancreatitis (SAP).
