Overseas Chinese is not only of great help to the study of the history of Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges, but also provides many new and precious historical materials for the study of Ming and Qing history. The Yanhang Diary of North Korea’s Yankees Jens Stein (center) disclosed his engagement with Cheng Jiuxian, a Liulichang emblem merchant. The book retains many of the poems from the “Jia and Confucianist” merchants. The unknown characters and related historical materials in Chinese classics reveal some of the stories in the history of cultural exchange between China and South Korea. They also have important academic value for the study of Hui (state) studies and the social and cultural history of Qing Dynasty.
