Deception of monopulse radar is one of the most intriguing issues in the area of electronic warfare. In order to effectively evaluate cheating devices, some preliminary work needs to be done to determine which electronic devices are best suited and what parameters these devices must meet. This paper investigates the feasibility of a single-pulse deceptive transponder mounted on a steel body vessel (RV ACANIA) and the characteristic parameters studied are the peak power required to implement deception and the gain required by the transponder loop. Before calculating these parameters, the cross-sectional area of the test platform on board the ship must be measured and the antenna isolation required to prevent harmful feedback from the repeater loop has to be measured. With these experiments done satisfactorily, it was determined that it would be appropriate to use a traveling wave tube with a output power of 60 dBM and a gain of 53 dB as the repeater loop.
