康熙大帝始终禀承中国传统文化,敬鬼神而远之,但又以神道设教。他从执政驭民的实际需要出发,着眼于经世立政,一方面劝喻王公大臣和上层知识分子远离宗教,另一方面对老百姓的宗教信仰在允许的大前提下加以适当约束,并有意识地利用宗教对社会稳定的维护作用和对人们精神的慰藉作用。他还善于剥开宗教的外衣,去学习随之而来的西方科学技术,充分展示了他在治国驭民方面的政治艺术。
