Objective To investigate the effects of long-term, regular sequential chemotherapy on intelligence and growth in children with ALL. Methods Sixty ALL children with long-term disease-free survival after a series of formal sequential chemotherapy were enrolled in this study. Their IQ, height, body weight, serum insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), bone age and estrogen (E2) , Testosterone (T) and the development of secondary sexual characteristics. The patients were divided into A and B groups according to the time of investigation. The results were compared with those of healthy children. Application SPSS 17.0 software for statistical analysis. Results The average IQ of 30 children in group A was 107.0, and the average IQ of 30 children in group B was 109.3. The results showed that there was no significant difference between IQ and healthy children in 60 children with ALL. The body height and body mass of 60 children with ALL were all within ± 2 seconds of the same age group. The serum IGF-1 level of 30 children in group B was within ± 2 seconds of the same age. 60 cases of ALL children with E2, T, the development of secondary sexual characteristics, bone age and healthy children are basically the same. Conclusion Long-term formal sequential chemotherapy in children with ALL has no significant effect on intelligence and growth.
