In July 1986, the third regular meeting of the president of the Socialist National Academy of Sciences was held in Berlin. The meeting was attended by senior members of the Academy of Sciences or other senior leaders in science and technology from the Soviet Union, the German Democratic Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Cuba, Mongolia and North Korea. The President of the Afghan Academy of Sciences and the Secretary-General of the Inter-Council also attended as observers.
